Expansion of Karnataka airports soon

New Delhi: Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday unveiled ambitious plans to develop airports across the state, in order to make the state an ideal investment and tourism destination. Mr Yeddyurappa said his ambition is to raise the ranking of Karnataka from the 7th position to the 1st ranking state in the country. As far as the acts of commission and omission of the H.D. Kumaraswamy government, he said the state Cabinet will discuss the issue and take the call.
Mr Yeddyurappa called on President Pratibha Patil and presented a detailed memorandum on the issues concerning the state. Mr Yeddyurappa also raised with the President the issue of according classical language status to Kannada. During his meeting with Union finance minister P. Chidambaram, Mr Yeddyurappa sought reimbursement of loans waived by the state for the farmers.
Asserting that civil aviation would receive top-most priority, Mr Yeddyurappa said that he had laid the foundation stones for Gulbarga and Shimoga Airports. For the proposed Hassan Airport, he said, bids have been invited.
