Kuwait-Mangalore maiden flight to transit via Sharjah

Muscat: A little bit of disappointing news for the Muscat Mangaloreans, who were eagerly looking forward to the extra two direct flights to Mangalore. The Kuwait-Mangalore flight which was supposed to transit via Muscat will not be touching down at Muscat International Airport, as originally foreseen by Air India.
Despite knowing that landing rights were not issued, Air India, in the hope of receiving a positive response from the Muscat Airport, went ahead and published the online booking schedule. Potential travellers from Muscat, who tried to book on this sector, have not been able to do the bookings. Mangalorean.com has been following up on the issue and kept abreast of the landing rights problems in Muscat.
Detailed meetings have taken place between the Muscat Station Air India officials, the Civil Aviation officials and local Mangalorean representatives. However, as per a clause in the bi-lateral agreement signed at the beginning of 2008 between the Civil Aviation Ministries of both the countries, no Indian carriers coming from Kuwait can land in Muscat and vice versa. The DGCA in Muscat has therefore NOT APPROVED landing rights for the maiden flight from Kuwait to Mangalore. This situation may change in the future but not for the first flight from Kuwait to Mangalore.
