Hyderabad: Old International Airport of the city may be used for various aviation activities including international air shows.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy recently wrote a letter to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel to use the facilities of the old airport during the times of national emergency or at anytime by aircraft owned or operated by Indian Air Force or other armed forces, as published in the Gazette of India in March.
General aviation services (other than those relating to commercial aircrafts, charter flights, and air crafts hired or operated under commercial arrangements) may continue to be provided all the existing airport at Begumpet, Hyderabad, not withstanding the exclusion of Civil Aviation Operations for commercial aircrafts, an official source said qouting the chief minister.
He proposed to utilize the Begumpet Airport, which has been lying idle since Shamshabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport took its place, to host airshows.
