Parapet crashes on airport traffic booth; cops escape

Vasco: Two traffic policemen had a miraculous escape when a portion of the parapet at the international departure section in Dabolim airport came crashing down on the traffic booth on Wednesday evening.
The brick parapet wall gave way at about 5.30 pm and destroyed the traffic booth on the ground floor outside the international arrival terminal. Two alert traffic policemen who were inside the booth rushed out, moments before the parapet shattered the booth.
Narrating the incident, a visibly shaken Traffic ASI Francis Fernandes said: “Police Constable Narvekar and I were seated in the boot, when we heard an unusual noise above us. We came out and a few seconds later, the wall collapsed and fell on the booth.”
Airport Director D Paul Manickam was relieved that there were no casualties in the otherwise busy airport.
“To our luck, there were no flights and there was no passenger movement at that point in time,” said Manickam.
