Radar goes off air at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: The radar of NSC Bose International Airport here went off the air for about two hours during peak hours this evening, affecting air traffic to and from Kolkata.
Besides, assistance to planes overflying India was also hit when the radar went off at 6 pm.
As a result, the process of landing and take off took more time compared to that during normal period.
Engineers fixed the problem and the radar came back to life at 8 pm.
The absence of radar which helps all flying aircraft within 60 nautical miles of Kolkata created some 'minor problem', air traffic sources said.
Airlines sources said a notice to airman had been issued to pilots that during the time air traffic controllers would talk to them through other means of communications.
