Snag delays AI flight to Mumbai by seven hours

Chennai: The travel plans of several passengers went for a toss after a Chennai-Mumbai Air India flight was delayed by five hours on Sunday.
The passengers who had completed their security and baggage checks had to wait inside the airport till dawn before the airline called for boarding in the morning. The delay spoiled the travel plans of many passengers because they were supposed to board connecting flights to different destinations, especially in the international sector.
As the delay was unexpected and the airline did not make alternative arrangement, passengers had to miss their connecting flights from Mumbai.
Sources said the delay was not announced earlier and the passengers got stuck inside the terminal because security checks were completed. Relatives of some of the passengers who came to see them off said they tried to reach the passengers inside but could not because of non-availability of airline staff.
Air India officials said that the flight was delayed because a technical snag was detected by the engineers. A team of technicians set right the snag and cleared the aircraft for operation. The flight departed at 5.30 am.
