AI officials gheraoed

Nedumbassery: In a significant turn of the ongoing agitation, the members of the CITU affiliated Airlines Casual Employees Association(ACEA) gheraoed the Air India officials of Kochi Airport at the Air India office.
The Airline Casual Employees Association was on an agitation demanding wage hike.
Chengamanad CI Sukumaran and SI C Jayakumar rushed to the spot and held talks with the representatives of the ACEA and promised that the matter will be discussed between the Air India Chairman and the ACEA leader Sebastian Paul MP on August 4.
The workers of the ACEA had surrendered their land for the construction of the Airport and in return they were provided employment as part of a rehabilitation package.
But the workers were paid just Rs. 150 per day. They alleged that the demands of the workers were ignored by the Air India Management. So they resorted to a relay hunger strike in front of the central gate of the Airport.
