New Delhi: With passengers load factors hitting an all time low in July, domestic airlines have once again started offering special fares on some routes to put a check on budget travellers shifting out for trains and buses.
This trend is most visible on India's busiest route - Delhi-Mumbai - where most airlines did not reduce any flights and now find planes shuttling between the financial and political capital with fewer fliers. While LCCs SpiceJet and IndiGo are offering basic fares starting Rs 599 (taxes and surcharge extra), even full service Jet has started special weekend fares on this sector.
Now airlines are coming up with offers to somehow get fliers back in the lean season till mid-October. Jet Airways, for instance, has introduced 14-day apex fares on many routes and this scheme is till October 14. For Delhi-Mumbai, it has launched basic fares as low as Rs 850 to 1,000 for weekends, on which the tax and surcharge comes to an additional Rs 3,475 per flier.
SpiceJet is offering up to 50% discount on basic fare from August 14 for tickets being purchased 15 days prior to travel.
