Airport workers' strike affects Delhi, Kolkata flights

New Delhi: The Left trade unions have called an All India strike in the country. Apart from the employees of the state-owned banks, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) employees have also joined the strike.
The strike has been called to protest inflation and the ‘anti-people’ and ‘anti-worker’ policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
The consequences of the strike are clearly visible at the Delhi airport, as the airport seems to be reeling under flight cancellations.
Four outgoing flights from Delhi have been cancelled. This includes four Kolkata bound flights: Jet airways, Jet Lite, Indigo and Kingfisher.
Also, a Go-Air Delhi-Mumbai flight stands cancelled at the moment and also an Air Deccan flight to Guwahati via Bagdogra. In view of the strike the Indian Air Force has decided to deploy its men to handle key airport services throughout the country.
Flights are likely to be cancelled from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport also.
According to the latest reports, all flights have also been cancelled from Kolkata.
