Compensation for Indian Airlines passenger

Thiruvananthapuram: The Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services has awarded Rs 25,000 as compensation to an Indian Airlines passenger who had suffered palate injuries while eating a `vada' served on the plane.
The Lok Adalat ordered Indian Airlines and its on-board caterers, Muthoot Skychef, to share the cost. It was on April 16, 2007 that Ragini Krishnan, along with her husband Kunhikrishnan, former deputy director- general of Doordarshan, boarded the Indian Airlines flight IC 932 bound for Chennai from Thiruvananthapuram.
When she bit the `vada' something sharp and pointed pierced her palate. She took a snap of the picture of the foreign object using her mobile phone. This was later used as evidence in the Lok Adalat.
A few days later, on April 23, Ragini sent a letter seeking compensation to IA General Manager, Customer Services, with copies to the IA Director and Muthoot Skychef. She received two apologies, one from the customer services general manager and another from the IA general manager (commercial). Both the letters expressed "sincere apologies" but they were silent on compensation.
