GHIAL to set up perishable cargo centre at Hyderabad airport

Hyderabad: Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has decided to set up a world-class centre for perishable cargo at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here.
Being at the geographical centre of India, Hyderabad offers a great advantage for logistics movements of perishable cargo both within India and for connecting to South East Asia and Middle East, Europe and USA, said the GHIAL Chief Commercial Officer Mr Vishwanath Attaluri here in a release on Saturday.
The CPC will be designed to handle 13,000 tonnes per annum of perishable cargo under Phase I (upto 2011) and the capacity will be raised to 25,000 tonnes per annum under Phase II (2013-14).
The projected investment for Phase I will be Rs 40 crore with a subsidy component of Rs 20 crore from Agricultural and Processed Food Product Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the remaining by GHAIL to cover land costs and infrastructural faciliti es like roads, freighter bay and three acres of land.
