Gohain is DGCA chief for 3 more months

New Delhi: The civil aviation ministry has recommended another 3-month extension for India’s director-general of civil aviation (DGCA) Kanu Gohain, whose term expires on August 31, ministry official sources have confirmed.
The recommendation has been made to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) which is expected to take a decision on the matter soon.
The ACC had last approved an extension of two months for Mr. Gohain at the end of June this year. Mr Gohain’s tenure as DGCA had initially expired in June 2007, after which the government granted two extensions of six months each. If Mr Gohain gets another extension, it will be his fourth one.
The Union Public Service Commission had earlier selected Mr Naseem Zaidi, a senior IAS officer, for the post of DGCA.
Mr Zaidi is currently India’s representative at the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal.
