HC directs center to consider representation of 68 casual load workers of AI

Chennai: Madras High Court has directed the Centre to consider the representation of 68 casual load workers of Air India, seeking to lift a ban imposed on recruiting them in permanent rolls.
Justice K Venkataraman, before whom the petition filed by M Vimal Raj and 67 others came up for hearing, directed the Centre to consider the representation of the petitioners on merit and in accordance with law within a period of eight weeks.
The petitioners submitted that they were recruited through employment exchange as casual loaders for Air India in 1999 and thereafter continued in service till date.
They submitted that the High Court had already restrained the Air India from recruiting any more casual and contract labourers after they filed two petitions on April 26 and 28 in 2006, challenging the Air India's move to recruit fresh candidates from outside.
