Kolkata: A passenger travelling to London from Kolkata on an Air India flight has landed the airline company in a spot when he reached London without his passport. Gujinder Singh had boarded a flight to London on July 29 after he was cleared by the immigration officials at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
When he reached the Heathrow Airport, officials there found that he was not carrying his passport and other documents. Sources said that Singh had deliberately destroyed all his documents on the flight as he wanted to seek an asylum in the UK.
He is at present under detention at the Heathrow Aiport.
The British High Commission has sent a show-cause notice to Air India through their airline liaison officer in Delhi, Sarah Spence.
Sources said that if Singh is denied asylum, he might be sent back to the originating country (India) and a penalty up to 30,000 euros might be imposed on the airlines company. Air India, however, has denied any such incident and has shrugged off the responsibility.
