Secretary Civil Aviation reviews bird menace at Delhi airport

The Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Shri Ashok Chawla today reviewed the problem of bird menace at the Delhi Airport which has been causing in bird hits by aircraft.
It was decided at the meeting that illegal slaughterhouses in the vicinity of the airport area needed to be shut down and a more organized waste disposal mechanism needs to be put in place. 6 critical locations have been identified which are abetting this problem. They are – Dwarka, Indira Market in R.K. Puram, Mehram Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Dabri More and Gazipur. The Ministry of Civil Aviation will take up the issues with the State Government of Delhi, the Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other stakeholders to expedite action in this regard.
The Delhi International Airport Limited has been directed to adopt best practices to deal with the bird menace at the airport. They have been asked to interact and take inputs from Indian Air Force and International experts.
