New Delhi: India’s youngest airline, MDLR, has run into regulatory trouble with the aviation ministry. While it is a north India-based regional airline that’s allowed to operate only to and from one metro, Delhi, with other non-metros, MDLR has been operating a Ranchi-Kolkata flight on a separate licence it holds. The DGCA has issued a notice to the airline for the alleged violation of regional airline norms and sought an explanation.
“The Ranchi-Kolkata-Ranchi sector was being sold on the airline’s website. This is not allowed as per rules as a schedule regional airline can fly from the metro in its area to non-metros across the country but not to a metro in other region. We have issued a notice to MDLR for this,” said a senior official.
On its part, the three Avro-strong airline says it operates flights to Ranchi on the regional airline permit and the flights from there to Kolkata are on its non-schedule charter licence.
