Foreign currency seized in Chennai airport

Chennai: Customs officials at the Anna International airport seized Indian and foreign currency worth Rs 40 lakhs from a Polish national bound for Singapore on Sunday.
Gimik Piotr (40), who runs a trading agency in Singapore, was attempting to board an Air India flight to Singapore on Sunday evening, when security officials began to suspect that something was amiss, as Piotr had come to India only two days back and was leaving almost immediately. When officials checked the suitcase that he was carrying as hand baggage, they found Rs 40 lakh worth of Indian and foreign currency concealed within sheets of newspapers.
Upon further investigation, Piotr confessed that he had been acting as a courier for a money laundering network . Piotr had reached Trivandrum from Singapore on September 5.
After collecting the money from an agent there, he had come to Chennai by train.He was to board the flight to Singapore on Sunday. He almost made away with the currency notes, and was caught by officials only at the last minute.
