Jett8 rejigs schedule with focus on China and India

Toronto: High fuel prices have induced most airlines to curtail their freighter flights, but Jett8 Cargo Airlines still sees room for expansion. Having secured a B747-400ER freighter from Jade Cargo International, the Singapore-based all-cargo outfit has revamped its schedule, replacing some European destinations and adding points in Asia to its network.
Jett8 dropped Luxembourg, Manchester and Dubai from its roster at the end of June, having previously served the European destinations with a stopover in the Middle East. Instead, the carrier launched flights to Amsterdam and the Swedish city of Malmo on July 1.
At the same time the airline mounted flights to Shanghai, its first destination in China, and opened three points in India - Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Jett8 continues the service between its Singapore base and Hong Kong, the first route launched after its inception last year.
Management did not comment on the reasons for the schedule change.
The stronger emphasis on Asian destinations should generate more interline traffic with Nippon Cargo Airlines and AirBridgeCargo Airlines. NCA, whose NYK parent invested US$5 million in Jett8, provided the new carrier's first 747-200 freighter. In addition, the pair has a block space agreement - NCA acts as Jett8's general sales agent in all the carrier's overseas markets and provides ground handling, engineering, equipment and crew training support.
