Chennai: Love may be blind, but immigration officers at Chennai airport are not. Khaja Mohideen (26), a native of Kudavasal in Thiruvarur district, realised this on Thursday when he landed here, in a bid to stop the marriage of his girl friend, on a fake passport.
Immigration officials noticed the man loitering near the arrival terminal on Thursday morning. He had landed at Chennai airport after boarding a flight from Dubai. On questioning, he made contradictory statements, raising the officials' suspicion. They took him into custody and, on inspection, found his passport to be a fake. Mohideen had apparently procured the fake passport to rush back home since his original was in the custody of his employer in Dubai.
Further interrogation revealed that he had come to Chennai and was to leave for his native place, where his girlfriend's marriage with another man was arranged. Mohideen was later handed over to the airport police.
Police said Mohideen has been in love with a girl in his home town of Kudavasal. Both the families opposed to the relationship and Mohideen's parents sent him off to the Gulf. He got a job in a company in Dubai and had to deposit his passport with the employer. Mohideen often talked to his lover over the phone. A few days ago, Mohideen was shocked to learn that his lover's parents had decided to marry her off to another person.
Mohideen approached some of his friends, and as advised by a friend, got in touch with a racket that deals in fake passports. He procured a forged document and took the flight to Chennai.
