A year after merger, staff integration still absent in NACIL

Mumbai: Despite a year after the merger of the two public sector airlines, Air India and Indian, staff integration has still not taken place due to the absence of a clear line of command.
"A year after their merger and putting in place an integration process, human resources integration has not yet taken place and there is a total absence of any line of command," a senior National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) official told media here.
"Personnel of both airlines are still working as employees of two separate airlines," the official said.
NACIL was formed following the merger of Air India and Indian last August.
Several key departments such as engineering, commercial and operations are still functioning separately and virtually no headway has been made so far in the common use of offices, manpower and infrastructure, the official said.
This was a shocking situation since directors had been appointed to oversee common functions, the official said.
The structure of the merged entity was finalised at merger time last year with many special business units (SBUs) created.
"A functional Director, General Manager and Deputy General Manager for each of the SBUs were appointed but they are not effectively operational," he said.
Despite NACIL suffering a huge loss and a lot of talk of cost-cutting taking place, wasteful expenditure still occured, the official said.
