Air India offers more benefits

New Delhi: Under pressure from the private airlines to maintain its falling market share especially after the strategic alliance between Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airline, the national carrier Air India (AI) today enhanced the benefits for frequent fliers in an attempt to retain its passengers.
The enhanced benefits to existing members of the frequent flier programme (FFP) include increased accrual of mileage points, usage of mileage points for upgrading, lower threshold for redemption or renewal besides free enrolment for new members.
In a Press statement, AI said FFP members could now redeem mileage points for upgrades to the next higher class on flights. The minimum threshold for redemption or renewal has been reduced to 10,000 mileage points (inclusive of add-on mileage points and bonus points) from 20,000 mileage points. The additional baggage allowance of up to 10 kilograms over the normal limit is now applicable both on domestic and international sectors.
For new members, the existing four programmes ~ Frequent Flyer Indian, Frequent Flyer US/UK, Frequent Flyer Far East and South East Asia and Frequent Flyer Gulf ~ have been standardised and made available free of charge.
