A vigilance inquiry has been initiated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) against Aerodrome Officer, MG Junghare, in the Mumbai airport, for allegedly faking his caste certificate to get a job in 1985.
When an inquiry was initiated in 2006 against Junghare, he furnished a bogus certificate of his dead brother to bolster his claim of being from the Scheduled Tribe (ST), sources said.
DNA is in possession of the disciplinary committee’s report. “No action has been taken on this report because of his connections with Mumbai politicians and corporate houses,” a source said.
Junghare is General Manager ATM (air traffic management), and is the local authority to grant permission for landing and take-off for private aircraft at the Mumbai airport. When DNA tried to contact Junghare, he did not answer.
According to the AAI, Junghare had furnished fake details about his caste and education in 1985 when he had joined as a trainee. The department stumbled on the case in 2006. In his replies, he claimed that his caste certificate was submitted to the authority and was not returned. It was found that all SC and ST officials who had joined with Junghare, had got their original certificates.
In response, Junghare furnished a caste certificate of his brother, which mentioned his caste ‘Dhoba’, as ST. In all Junghare’s school records, his caste has been mentioned as Dhobi. In Maharashtra, the Dhobi caste comes under OBC.
