Demand for direct flights to Kerala

Pune: United Kerala Foundation (UKF) an umbrella organisation representing the Keralite population of Pune submitted a memorandum to National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL), Pune station manager D V Vandekar seeking introduction of direct flights to Kerala. The memorandum stated that more than five lakh Keralites live in the city. The most pressing problem is the lack of convenient and fast travel facility to Kerala. As a result, travellers are forced to go to Mumbai to get a flight to destinations like Cochin, Trivandrum and Calicut.
Vandekar said, “Our office has received a memorandum from the Kerala association requesting to start flight services to their state. We will forward the application to authorities.”
UKF coordinator Gopinath Pillai said other than the Keralites, a large number of tourist passengers travelling to Kerala are forced to either travel by train or commute to Mumbai.
