Instrument Landing System reinstalled

Nedumbassery: The disruption of flight service at the Kochi airport owing to poor visibility will be history as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) completed the reinstallation work of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) on Thursday.
The AAI officials said that the ILS would be fully operational on Monday.The officials claimed that the existing ILS was replaced with modern ILS Category- I. The AAI, which is responsible for controlling air traffic, has spent around Rs 2.5 crore for reinstallation works. The Kochi airport witnessed a near total disruption of flight service owing to poor visibility in the absence of the proper functioning of ILS in the last two days. Around 19 flights from international and domestic airports were either diverted to other airports or put on hold at the Kochi Airport on Wednesday. The reinstalled ILS Category- I would be operational after the approval of the calibration team, a member of the installation team L N Prasad told reporters.
The new ILS Category-I is likely to begin operation on Monday, Prasad added.
