New Delhi: Over 300 pink-slipped Jet Airways employees burst into celebration at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday after company chairman Naresh Goyal announced their reinstatement with immediate effect late on Thursday night.
The employees, who were in a combative mode just a day before, were singing paeans to Goyal. “All of us are so happy to get back our jobs. The termination letters had really jolted us. We thank all those who supported us in the time of crisis,” cabin crew member Rahul Jain said.
All the reinstated employees — airhostesses, cabin crew and security and front desk personnel — reached the airport early on Friday, neatly dressed in their uniform.
Thursday’s anxious faces sported ear-to-ear smiles as their colleagues welcomed them at the gate earmarked for Jet. “The management realised its mistake and did what was right. We are grateful to them,” airhostess Deepshikha said.
The employees were not given reinstatement letters, still all of them appeared relieved. “It is such a nice feeling to get back to work. Last two days I went through hell.
Joblessness was a living nightmare,” Garuv, another cabin crew member, said.
After an understanding with Kingfisher, Jet had sacked over 2,000 employees, sending the entire aviation industry into a tizzy. “All the employees have been asked to return to work. They will be soon given official letters, asking them to rejoin,” a Jet Airways official in New Delhi said.
