Ahmedabad: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has held that faster resolution of disputes between parties arising from breach of contract is largely in public interest. It has directed chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) to appoint an arbitrator to resolve the dispute with a city contractor, Hitesh Patel of Asarwa.
Patel was providing free baggage trolley services at the city airport under an agreement with AAI, but was terminated due to alleged ineffective services provided by him. Patel, through his application under RTI Act, sought explanation for loss of revenue.
Patel also sought to know from AAI the reasons for delay in appointment of an arbitrator to settle the dispute between them. AAI has claimed recovery of dues worth Rs 14.8 lakh from Patel, who has asked for a refund of his deposits of Rs 12 lakh and the value of trolleys of over Rs 10 lakh.
