Kolkata: The proposed Aerotropolis, a private airport, at Andal in Burdwan district of West Bengal has run into rough weather with state-owned Coal India Ltd claiming that it would block coal reserves of about 2300 million tonne.
"CIL has pointed out to the state government that about 2300 million tonne of superior quality non-coking coal will be blocked if the aero-complex is located at the proposed site," Coal India chairman Partha S Bhattacharyya said here.
He said the CIL had also apprised the Coal and Civil Aviation ministries about its reservations on the proposed project.
The CIL also requested the state government that the proposed location of the Aerotropolis airport should be reviewed and said that in the larger interest of the country's energy security any permanent infrastructure at that place should be avoided.
