Staffers still on rolls fear the worst

Mumbai: Jet Airways' lay-off plans have spread fear in the airline's city and airport offices, with those who have escaped the sack till now are a s scared as those who have already been asked to go.
The reports of another round of termination on Wednesday did nothing to lift the gloomy spirit. "I may have to call up to know about my flight schedule tomorrow and may get news of my service termination instead," a Jet Airways flight attendant, working with the company for the past two years, said. "The move to lay-off such a huge number of cabin crew has terrified all of us," he added.
Some of the existing crew went ahead with their flight schedules but those who had a rest day joined the agitation by cabin crew who had already been laid off. "This move has made me wonder if I actually have any future here," another flight attendant said.
Most Jet staff blamed the Kingfisher-Jet deal for their travails, recounting how Kingfisher's takeover of Air Deccan affected the latter's employees more. "We know you have to reduce cost to bring down losses. But the deal has made it worse for us," a flight attendant said.
The lack of too many alternatives was what scared most Jet employees. "Jet is a big name in the aviation industry. It is also likely to rule the market along with Kingfisher following the deal. I can't think of leaving it right now," a flight attendant, who finished a year of flying with Jet Airways, said. "We can only wait and watch," he added.
