Chandigarh: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed an airline company to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for loading the baggage of a family to another airport. The compensation will be paid for the mental and physical harassment the complainant faced due to the negligent act.
Anil Salwan, a resident of Sector 39, had booked a holiday package of three night and four days from October 14-17, 2007, with return tickets from Delhi to Port Blair for Rs 1,98,823.
The complainant, along with other three members of his family, boarded the Sahara Jet Life flight from Delhi to Port Blair on the scheduled day. Their luggage was duly deposited in the cargo before the flight. When the flight landed at Port Blair the same day, the complainant was told that his luggage had been mistakenly offloaded at the Kolkata airport.
After a complaint to the concerned authorities, Salwan was told that due to some misunderstanding their employees had offloaded his luggage and he would get it in the next flight of Jet Airways at 8 am the following morning. The luggage never reached in the next flight too.
Salwan was then told that the luggage will arrive in the own plane of Sahara Jet Lite scheduled to reach Port Blair on October 15, 2007. The complainant averred that by that time, more than one and a half of the four-day holiday had become a dull affair. As all the clothes and articles of daily use were in the luggage, the complainant stated he had to spend another Rs 3,500. It was averred that the complainant went through a harrowing time as some valuable articles were also lying in the baggage.
