Fly cheap to the Big Apple now

Bangalore: Start making travel plans for that long dreamt of White Christmas in New York and ring in the New Year at Times Square. Fares are down
by a third on the Bangalore-New York route.
We saw a slugfest on the Bangalore-London route recently. Now, it's the Bangalore-New York route that's hotting up with Jet Airways entering the fray and connecting Bangalore to New York via Brussels. Fares on this sector have plummeted by 30%.
Barely three months ago, an average return ticket on the Bangalore-New York sector cost between Rs 60,000 and Rs 65,000 (inclusive of taxes). Today, you can fly to the Big Apple for just Rs 40,000 (inclusive of taxes).
Air France is now offering a base economy return ticket price of just Rs 18,050. With taxes, that goes up to Rs 40,574. Two days ago, Emirates brought down its fare to Rs 44,995 for a return ticket. Inclusive of airport taxes, Emirates charges Rs 49,377, which is Rs 3,000-Rs 4,000 less than what it was charging a week ago. Jet's introductory best return ticket price to New York is Rs 51,076, inclusive of taxes.
National carrier Air India dropped its fares from September and now charges a return ticket price of Rs 51,000 to New York via Mumbai.
According to industry estimates, international airfares reported in Bangalore for the second quarter of 2008 were 30% lower than that in the same period a year ago.
