New Delhi: Veteran journalist, Kuldip Nayyar has slapped a Rs 7.5 million compensation suit on private airline Jet Airways for allegedly “offloading him” from a Delhi-bound flight at the Amritsar airport four months ago.
In a petition filed before the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, 81 year-old Nayyar who is a former Member of Parliament and also a former High Commissioner to UK, contended that on March 9 this year, he had reached the Amritsar airport on his way back from Pakistan to board the only flight to Delhi. Nayyar alleged he was issued a boarding pass along with two baggage tags. However, when he proceeded towards the security check a lady customer executive at the counter allegedly called him back and asked him to return the boarding pass for “re-checking the number on the computer.”
She then issued a fresh boarding card and handed over two new baggage tags. The customer executive again asked him to move towards the security check.
After waiting in the lounge for 15 minutes Nayyar to his utter shock was informed that the flight had already left and that the boarding card was issued “by mistake”. The exhausted heart patient had to eventually take a train to New Delhi.
