New Delhi: After the "controversial" decision of imposing a ban on smoking in public places, huge hoarding showing ads of alcoholic drinks at airports across the country are on the health ministry's radar.
Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss, annoyed over the "grandiose" display of advertisements of alcoholic drinks in airports, is pushing civil aviation ministry to remove such ads.
Ramadoss, citing various scientific and technical studies highlighting the adverse affect of alcoholism, has urged civil aviation minister Praful Patel to have them removed as they were legally banned in the country. In a letter to Patel, Ramadoss requested him to issue specific instructions to the concerned authorities as advertisements of alcoholic drinks are already legally banned in the electronic and print media.
Ramadoss, in a letter on August 25, had expressed his disappointment over the "grandiose display inside airports in various cities throughout the country aiming to advertise alcoholic drinks with famous brand names" in the form of large size hoardings, vinyl boards and banners.
Ramadoss had said that even though such ads were banned in the electronic and print media, the hoardings were still on display at various airports, including Delhi Airport.
