Mumbai: Amid expectations of a second bailout package to boost economic growth, airline industry is seeking a bail-out package from the Government.
Air India CMD Raghu Menon and Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) Secretary General Anil Baijal would be meeting Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel to appraise him about the bailout package the industry is seeking, an industry source told PTI here on Sunday.
While no date has as yet been fixed for the meeting, aviation industry players are pressing for a meeting this week itself, the source said.
The decision to call on Patel was taken at a recent meeting of the FIA in Mumbai, which was attended by all the Federation members including Air India Chairman and Managing Director Raghu Menon, Kingfisher Airlines Chairman, Vijay Mallya, Jet Airways Chairman, Naresh Goyal and FIA Secretary General, Anil Baijal, among others, the source said.
The airline industry said that when oil prices were ruling at over USD 145-per barrel there were some state governments which were levying a huge amount of sales tax ad valorem.
The airlines want that some amount of compensation should be given to them as a part of the bail-out package, the source said.
