Dallas: American Airlines and the Allied Pilots Association have sent a new alert to their pilots Friday night, warning those flying in and out of New Delhi, India to be extra vigilant for terrorism.
New threats against either an airliner or airport there have surfaced a week after terrorists murdered more than 170 people in a series of coordinated attacks in Mumbai.
Pilots and flight crews received the following warning Friday evening:
NEW DELHI SECURITY UPDATE: We have received reports regarding possible attacks directed against civil aviation in India. Many of these reports are untrue and are based upon rumor and misinformation. However, as a precaution, American Airlines has upgraded all security measures for flight crews, aircraft and passenger screening. Flight crews should also take extra measures and maintain a heightened sense of vigilance. APA Security has been in continuous contact with APA National Officers, AA Security managers and independent intelligence sources. We will continue to monitor this situation and keep you informed of any changes.
American operates one daily flight, a Boeing 777, to New Delhi from Chicago and another daily flight from New Delhi to Chicago.
