Capt Gopinath to foray into express logistics biz

Captain Gopinath is a busy man. He's putting the finishing touches on his latest venture -- Deccan Express Logistics. The business will work on the hub and spoke model with warehousing centres in Hyderabad, Delhi and Nagpur. These hubs will be connected via air and surface, to various transit points. He has tied up with trucking companies across the country to provide first mile transport. Loose ends in the air are also being tied up.
GR Gopinath, CMD, Deccan Express Logistics said, "The aircrafts are expected to come in by the end Jan or beginning Feb. We have nine aircraft in all and will start with six."
How will this venture be funded? One through his personal funds. So far he has put in USD 15 miilion largely by selling portions of his stake in Kingfisher Airlines. Second he is looking for PE funding of between USD 50-70 millionn for which he has appointed Edelweiss Cap to scout for potential investors.
Warehouses will be build in each zone, housing state of the art technology... running up a bill of up to 25 million dollars.
