IFFAAD urges travel industry to promote South Indian states to reduce terror attack impact

New Delhi: The International Foundation for Aviation and Development (IFFAAD) (India Chapter) yesterday organised a seminar in New Delhi, ‘Current crisis in aviation and tourism- Opportunities ahead’, in order to overcome the impact of the Mumbai terror attacks on the tourism scene in India. Speaking at the seminar, Amitabh Kant, Principle Secretary (Industries), Government of Kerala and Delhi said, “The travel industry should identify four or five key emerging destination which are completely safe. It should introduce Hyderabad and Bangalore as new entry points. The tourism industry should promote markets like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu which are safe for tourists. The industry should promote these south Indian states. This should be our communication strategy while marketing India tourism.” The seminar was attended by current and past Directorate Generals of Civil Aviation (DGCA), MoT and MoCA officials, travel agents, tour opeartors and the media.
Referring to the outcome of the seminar, Dr Sanat Kaul, President, IFFAAD said, “Currently, airports in India are more secure and well prepared to fight terror attacks. The Government of India is taking strict steps to improve security in the country, not only in hotels but everywhere. The media has given a lot of exposure to the attacks in Mumbai, especially the electronic media. I hope the media will give equal importance and publicity to focus tourism potential in emerging states of India, especially the South Indian states. The idea is to convey that India, as a whole, is a safe country to travel.”
