NAL-MIT aero show open new vistas

Malpe: It was one of the rare opportunities for this town, usually well known for its religious functions Udupi and Malpe woke up today to the roar of the engines of small aircrafts and hang gliders, some of them took off from the Bajpe airport flew in fifteen minutes to the Malpe beach made few low passes over the beach and did some aerobatics and went back to land in Bajpe airport. The roar of the engines were matched by the cheer of over 5000 people gathered at the Vadabandeshwara beach.
The early morning sky over the beach dotted with aircrafts appearing in the horizon to the thunderous welcome of the audience lingered for over 2 hours 15 minutes from 8.15 am to 10.30am during which time 22 aircrafts including Powered hang gliders, microlight aircrafts Hansa aircrafts and ultralight aircrafts made passes over the beach and the sea and some of them even landed on the beach. The people were able to touch the aircrafts and interacted with the young pilots of the National Aerospace Laboratories of Bangalore. The event was organized by the NAL-MIT jointly.
Earlier flagging off the Mini air show vice chancellor of Manipal University Prof. Raj Varriar called on the youth in his brief speech to hone the love for flying and adventure. He said along with academics it was necessary that youngsters should also excel in spirit of adventure.
Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha on this occasion said that the aviation industry was developing in India into a major industry and those who learn to fly can be a part of an industry that has tremendous scope.
NAL director A.R. Upadhya on this occasion introduced the pilots to the vice chancellor and the Deputy Commissioner and said some of the NAL veterans were also good pilots and this rally was organised to instill confidence in the youth and to enthuse them to join aviation industry and education in aerospace.
Dr. Sandeep Sancheti director of NITK also spoke on the occasion stated that the aviation industry and the engineering colleges are coming closer then ever to begin courses in aviation engineering.
Director of the MIT S.S. Pabla released a souvenir Suvarna Sadhana to commemorate the National Aerospace Laboratory's silver jubilee. On Sunday the NAL hold the same drill at Bajpe airport.
