Sky marshals may soon fly with you

New Delhi: The government may deploy sky marshals on domestic flights to avoid a Kandahar-like episode. The decision has been taken in the backdrop of the recent terror attack in Mumbai and inputs received from the intelligence agencies. The Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai airports have been placed on high alert following intelligence reports that terrorists have infiltrated into the country to carry out air strikes.
“Security at the metro and non-metro airports has been beefed up. We are in touch with all concerned departments to ensure safe air travel. We have also issued guidelines, asking airlines to ensure that their passengers cooperate with the security personnel,” an official in the ministry of civil aviation said.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has advised passengers to reach airports two hours in advance to facilitate thorough security checks. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel and CCTV cameras have been increased inside airports in wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
With investigations suggesting that terrorists used the sea route to unleash the deadliest attack in India’s financial capital, security is being beefed up at oil and gas installations particularly in offshore locations.
