New Delhi: As airlines decided not to pay commission to travel agents and withdrew charging transaction fees on air tickets, all major travel agents across the country today targeted Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite by deciding not to sell their tickets from Thursday.
Maintaining that Kingfisher Airlines, Air India and Jet had implemented the "zero commission" concept, leaders of six travel agents associations, who met here today, said they would "withdraw support to Jet Airways, including JetLite, from December 4 for all domestic and international routes." The "boycott" of Jet would continue "until the airline chooses to hold a meaningful discussion to address our concern. We will continue this action indefinitely till realisation sets in among the airlines. Jet is just the beginning," Rajji Rai, President of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), told reporters here. Asked as to why only Jet was being targeted and not the other two carriers, he said, "We have decided this as part of our strategy... Ur list (of airlines) will go on increasing in the coming days. We are ready to go whole hog." A Jet Airways spokesperson said they would not like to comment at this stage.
Besides TAAI, the meeting was attended by top leaders of travel bodies like Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) and Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO).
