Travel bookings drop and cancellations rise

Bangalore: There has been a sharp drop of 30-40 per cent in group travel bookings, while several individual tourists have started cancelling their trips to India.
A spokesperson for a general sales agent (GSA) for a clutch of international airlines said several travel agents have started reporting huge cancellations in group bookings.
“The terrorist attacks have also impacted domestic travel. Those who were planning a trip to Mumbai have cancelled their trips and are demanding full refund. They do not want us to even charge a cancellation fee,” he added.
“We will have to wait for a few weeks to see what the actual numbers are,” said Ms Richa Goyal Sikri, Director-Group Business Development, STIC Travel Group. “As of now, we have received requests for change in itineraries to exclude Mumbai, but there have been no significant cancellations.”
