Mangalore: The Air India Express, the low-cost career of Air India, has proposed to start an additional daily flight between Mangalore and Dubai from January 10, according to sources in the airport here.
The authorities of Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Bajpai had approved the proposal, including its schedule, sources said.
The new flight will arrive here from Dubai at 6 a.m. daily, and depart to Dubai at 10 p.m. daily. The existing flight takes off from here to Dubai at 10 a.m. and arrives from there at 6.30 p.m.
Once the new service began, the number of flights to Dubai would double, from seven flights (14 movements, including arrival and departure) a week to 14 flights (28 movements) a week, sources said. The proposed flight would originate from and terminate at Mangalore unlike the existing one which was doing so from Kozhikode. It meant that the airliner would press into service a flight dedicated exclusively to operate between Mangalore and Dubai, sources said. The existing flight to Dubai originates from Kozhikode, arrives here and then departs to Dubai in the morning. While returning, after landing in Mangalore, it takes off to Kozhikode by evening.
