Indore to have irradiation centre, air cargo facility

Indore: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on his first official visit to the city after donning the chair of Chief Minister for the second consecutive time, will foundation stone of the state's first Irradiation Centre as well as the Air Cargo centre here on January 28.
The demand for setting up an Irradiation centre in the city was being made since a long time. Former Indore collector and managing director, the Mandi Board and the M P Warehousing Corporation, Vivek Agrawal had played key role in this regard and held several rounds of talks with the CAT scientists.
Similarly, the setting up of air cargo centre at near Indore airport, will offer cheap and quick transportation to local produce - such as vegetables, fruits, flowers and the same can be transported to different parts of India and ever abroad through air cargo. The Airport Authority of India has provided necessary land near Indore airport to set up air cargo with a capacity of 40 tonnes.
The Infrastructural Cell of the Mandi Board has sanctioned a sum of Rs 5 crore for air cargo which will be constructed and monitored by the Board itself, Agrawal informed adding that setting of air cargo, will prove to be helpful once air cargo service commences from Indore airport after expansion of the airport runway upto 10,000 feet.
