Jet starts fresh price war in the skies

Jet Airways and its low-cost subsidiary JetLite have announced 50 per cent discount on their full fares in the economy class, taking the fare war in the domestic skies to an extreme level.
“The market was not picking up as expected despite lowering of fares. We are sure that this offer will excite lot more flyers,” said a Jet Airways spokesperson. This limited period offer, valid for travel till December 2009, is available from January 23 to 25. There is a straight 50 per cent discount on full fare, fuel surcharge and congestion surcharge, but passengers need to pay the full passenger service fee (PSF) of Rs 229, which goes to the airport operator.
For example, a Mumbai-Delhi Jet Airways ticket priced at Rs 5,350 is now offered at an all-inclusive price of Rs 2,904 (Rs 1,250 base fare + Rs 1,425 fuel/congestion surcharge + Rs 229 PSF).
Meanwhile, a Mumbai-Delhi JetLite ticket earlier priced at Rs 2,845 is now available for Rs 1, 754 all-inclusive.
If you are lucky, you can also get a JetLite Mumbai-Delhi all-inclusive ticket for Rs 979 (base fare Rs 75 + fuel surcharge Rs 625+ PSF Rs 229).
Two days ago, GoAir had also offered massive discounts. The Wadia group airline is offering all-inclusive fares starting from Rs 1,500 onwards for travel between February 14 and June 30, 2009.
