NACIL to enhance operations with induction of new aircraft

Mumbai: The National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL), which is currently under-going a consolidation phase post the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, will induct more aircraft to its fleet, which will offer incremental capacity, superior product and more fuel efficiency and further improve the revenue generated by the airline. The company is in the process to induct three B777-200 LR (long range) aircraft, which are slated to be delivered between June and August this year. The company had placed an order of a total of eight B777-200 LR of which five are already delivered. These, incoming B777-200 LR will be operated on long-haul routes and can fly non-stop from one destination to another. The airline's third non-stop destination will be San Francisco and the San Francisco flight is expected to start in the second half of the year.
The airline will also give away a total of six leased aircrafts as their lease term is going to end soon. Other aircraft be inducted by the national carrier are A321 and A319, which will be operated on domestic routes. “There were a total of 20 A321 and 19 A319 that were ordered of which 18 aircraft in a combination of both makes have already been inducted, while nine A321 and A319 will be inducted this year. The rest will be inducted in 2010 and 2011,” informed Jitendra Bhargava, Executive Director Corporate Communications, NACIL. He further added that, A321 can also fly short haul international routes.
