Satyam, Maytas knee-deep in State pie

Bangalore: Satyam Computers and its sister concern Maytas Infra have their fingers in many pies in Karnataka. The projects they have a stake in range from an ambulance service to an expressway.
The entire logistics and manpower training for the Arogya Kavacha - the emergency medical response service on the toll-free helpline number ‘108’ launched in November is being provided by Satyam’s non-profit arm - the Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI).
Apart from Karnataka, the Hyderabad-based EMRI offers the service in seven other states across the country. Curiosity and need had meant that the 108 helpline received 20,000 calls within 24 hours of its launch in Karnataka.
Minister for Infrastructure Development Janardhana Reddy, said that it may be “too early” to speak of the repercussions of the Satyam crisis.
The projects include Shimoga and Gulbarga Airports
Infrastructure Development Department (IDD), Karnataka selected a consortium of Maytas Infra, NCC Infrastructure Holdings Ltd (NCC) and VIE India Project Development and Holding LLC (VIE) to develop and operate the airports proposed at Shimoga and Gulbarga on a BOT basis. Both are greenfield projects based on the Public-Private -Partnership (PPP) model. A Special Purpose Company (SPC) has been established for them. The Shareholding pattern of Maytas Infra, NCC and VIE will be 37 per cent, 37 per cent and 26 per cent respectively in each of them.
