Chennai: No flight will take off from Chennai if the supply of aviation fuel does not resume by Friday. Hit hard by two strikes — by truckers and Indian Oil Corporation officers — airline officials are nervous as the fuel reserve is drying up.
It may not last for more than 48 hours, an airline official said on Thursday. “Kolkata and Mumbai are in bigger trouble because of this strike. We are now lifting extra fuel from other destinations and transporting to these cities,” the official said.
An AAI source said transportation of fuel was causing the airlines a loss of fuel due to additional burning.
Jet Airways sources said that at least 100 of their flights were suffering an average loss of Rs 12,000 on each flight.
