Travel trade associations in Kerala to declare all-India bandh

New Delhi: Travel trade associations in Kerala namely IAAI, TAAI and TAFI, have threatened to call for an All Indian `bandh’ (strike) if Silk Air, subsidiary of Singapore Airlines fails to offer agents five per cent commission by 5 pm on 27th of this month. This information was divulged by Biji Eapen, President, IAAI. However, the date and the time frame of the All India `bandh’ has not been decided yet. The association members have been staging a dharna in front of the office of Silk Air in Kochi for the past six days to protest the decision of the airline to implement zero commission regime. The associations including others like ADTOI and ETAA have withdrawn support to both Singapore Airlines and Silk Air in protest over implementation of zero commission. A letter of the deadline of January 27, to offer five per cent commission was submitted to the Country Manager of Silk Air by Eapen and officials of other associations day before yesterday.
The associations, apart from the dharna have been creating public awareness about their protest against Singapore Airlines, Silk Air and other international airlines operating in India on their implementation of zero commission regime by way of putting up hoardings, bumper stickers, distributing leaflets, T-shirts with slogans and demonstrations all over India with the support of the political parties, chambers of commerce and social clubs like Lions, Rotary etc.
