22 airports so far given license: Govt

New Delhi: The Government today said it has so far issued licenses to 22 airports across the country after being satisfied with their implementation of safety measures prescribed by the DGCA.
"Twenty two airports used for scheduled flight operations have been given licenses so far. All other airports are required to obtain the same by June 2009," Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
To ensure that all the safety measures prescribed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are implemented by aerodromes, licensing of airports has been initiated by DGCA in 2004, Patel said.
The government has also put in place various measures to ensure security at airports, he said.
"Enhanced surveillance of land and air-side areas of airports, Perimeter Patrolling and guarding of funnel area during operational hours, reinforcement of all access control points and additional deployment of QRTs/striking reserve forces at airports have been initiated," he said.
