Aerotropolis service provider to meet CM

Kolkata: Mr Wang Wong Leon, the chief executive officer of Changi Airport, the technical service provider of the Aerotropolis project, would meet chief minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, on 13 February at Writers’ Buildings.
Mr Leon would like to discuss with the chief minister the various causes for which work of the proposed Aerotropolis project at Andal was getting delayed, senior officials at Writers' buildings said.
The state government has recently started acquiring land for the project, nearly a year after the MoU for the project was signed in January, 2008.
Earlier, Coal India had raised objections over setting up of the Aerotropolis on the coal belt.
Nearly 140 crore ton coal lies under the land earmarked for the project, Coal India officials informed. If the project is set up on that land, it would be difficult to lift coal from it.
Later, the chief minister had taken up the issue with the Centre and urged that proper measures be taken in this regard.
However, it was learnt that Coal India had finally given its nod, but work for the project was now getting delayed as the state government was yet to acquire 2,364 acres of land required for the project. The land acquisition notice was served in December last year. But villagers objected to acquisition of land.
