Airlines shift terminals

Mumbai: The long queues at Mumbai airport, specifically due to heavy flight movement, are making airport authorities look for alternatives to decongest the existing terminal building.
One such alternative might be the shifting of Kingfisher Red (earlier Air Deccan) counter from terminal 1B to 1A. Kingfisher and Air India are the only two airlines which operate from terminal 1A. However, despite the takeover, Kingfisher Red has been using what used to be the Air Deccan check-in point and counter at terminal 1B. While the issue of moving Kingfisher Red to terminal 1A has come up in the past due to the confusion among passengers, the cluttering of passengers at peak hours has given it an added thrust, airport officials said.
According to officials, at a recent meeting between Mumbai International Airport Pvt ltd (MIAL), CISF and various airlines, the issue of decongesting the terminal building reigned supreme. Shifting the airline counter was also one the propositions. "The shifting of Kingfisher Red to 1A is under consideration. There is no specific timeline yet as there are certain commercial terms that need to be agreed upon,'' said a MIAL spokesperson.
A Kingfisher spokesperson said they have already requested MIAL to give them the requisite infrastructure to operate Kingfisher Red.
